Play music while you browse your library.

RetroVoid has a built-in music player that lets you listen to your own music while browsing your game library. Import songs, build a playlist, and control playback from anywhere in the app.

Supported Formats#

Note: On Windows, .aiff, .aif, and .m4a files are automatically transcoded to WAV for compatibility. Your original files are left untouched; RetroVoid keeps its own copy of each imported track.

Adding Music#

1. Open Settings > Music.
2. Click Add Songs to open the file picker.
3. Select one or more audio files. They'll be imported into your playlist, with progress shown as each file is copied.

RetroVoid automatically extracts metadata (title, artist, album, duration) from your files. If a title isn't available, the filename is used instead, and a missing artist shows as "Unknown Artist".

Playback Controls#

The music player provides standard playback controls:

• Play / Pause: start or pause the current track
• Seek: drag the progress bar to move within the current track
• Skip Next: jump to the next track in the playlist
• Skip Previous: go back to the previous track, or restart the current track if more than 3 seconds in
• Volume: adjust with the volume slider (the icon shows a mute indicator at zero)

Repeat Modes#

The Repeat Mode button in Settings > Music cycles through three modes:

• Off: playback stops after the last track
• Loop All: loop the entire playlist continuously (default)
• Repeat One: repeat the current track indefinitely

The repeat button on the player card cycles the same three modes.

Shuffle#

Toggle shuffle to randomize playback order. Turning it on builds a randomly ordered queue from your playlist, starting from whatever is playing. Turning it off returns to the playlist's own order.

Playlist Management#

In Settings > Music, you can manage your playlist:

• Reorder tracks by dragging them into your preferred order
• Play a track by double-clicking its title
• Edit metadata: click the pencil button on a track to edit its Title, Artist, or Album inline, then click Save
• Delete tracks: click the trash button on a track

Mini Player#

A compact Now Playing mini player is available in the Quick Settings panel (press F1, or click the gear at the far right of the top bar). It shows the current track info, a seek bar, and all playback controls, so you can manage your music without leaving your library. The section appears only once you have imported at least one track.

Auto-Play on Launch#

Enable Auto-play on Launch in Settings > Music > Playback Settings to start your music automatically when RetroVoid opens. It is off by default.

Game Launch Behavior#

Music automatically pauses when you launch a game and resumes when the game closes. No configuration needed.

Steam games are the exception: they launch through Steam, so RetroVoid cannot tell when they exit. A short while after a Steam launch, a small Resume background music? prompt appears with Yes and No buttons so you can decide for yourself.
